The black bottle of gold carries the message “Hommage à Paul Pontellier” below. This year 2015 is a beautiful swan song from an incredibly gifted winemaker who left us too early.
This is the first time in history when Margaux distinguishes vintage with a unique new bottle look. The new design is, first of all, a tribute to Paul Pontalier, who passed away in March 2016, leaving behind a vintage edition of 2015, which was created under his leadership. This special edition also marks the 200-year-old architecture on the estate and the opening of new basements designed by Lord Norman Foster. Finally, it’s just one of the greatest vintages in Margaux history.
The climatic conditions of 2015 were so good that the year is considered to be one of the great ones, at the level from 2005, 2009 and 2010. From the point of view of composition, Chateau Margaux 2015 — only 35% of the total harvest was chosen for the first wine, a record in vintage this level. As usual, Cabernet Sauvignon is the basis - 87%. Merlot is 8%. Cabernet Franc — 3% and Petit Verdot — 2% also find their place in this exclusive blend, demonstrating how all grape varieties can afford to express their genius in such carefully selected blends.
How to describe Chateau Margaux 2015 compared to its predecessors? We can expect the power of 2005, the flesh of 2009, the subtlety of 2010, and the charm that defines the wines of Chateau Margaux.
The average color is pomegranate-purple, the nose has seductive notes of warm blackberry, sandalwood, anise, tobacco and incense. Full, muscular, very strong basis of granular tannins. Aging potential of at least 15 years.
